Give Your Liver a Bath for Weight Loss!

Did you know that just by adding a few, choice foods and herbs to your shopping list, and to your day, that you could LOSE weight? It’s TRUE! By helping your liver work more efficiently to metabolize fat, by decreasing your internal inflammation, and by increasing your body’s metabolism naturally by eating thermogenic foods, you could eat yourself thin!

Let’s first  talk about your liver in this blog.

Your liver performs 400 different jobs. We are not going to talk about all of them… but I will tell you that it is one of the most important organs in your body, as it filters toxins in your body, metabolizes proteins, controls hormonal balances, and helps out your immune system.

For weight-loss, we are most interested in the fact that your liver is a fat burning machine. When it gets clogged up, fat cannot be efficiently burned. If you have a roll of fat around your waistline, you might have a “fatty liver”. It has stopped processing fat and has started storing it. By cleansing it and bringing it back to full function, you can start losing the fat. How cool is that?

The liver does a great job cleansing your body of toxins. When it is overloaded, however, hormone imbalances may develop, fat can accumulate in and around the liver and other organs, and toxins can build up in your bloodstream. Some signs of a toxic liver are:

  • weight gain, especially around the tummy
  • fatigue
  • cellulite
  • mood swings
  • bloating in your stomach
  • skin rashes
  • indigestion
  • depression
  • high blood pressure

So what can you do to clean you liver? You can make the following a part of your daily routine:

  • Start by drinking a glass of lemon water, cold or hot, first thing in the morning. This helps flush and decongest the liver. Put as much lemon in the water as is palatable. You can drink lemon water before each meal if you really want to get down to it!
  • Eat organic whenever possible. The pesticides, antibiotics, and added hormones that can be found in many meats is toxic to your liver. Thin skinned fruits and vegetables also have absorbed much of the pesticides they were sprayed with in the field. A good rule of thumb is, if the skin is thin, buy organic. Or at the very least, wash them with a good fruit and veggie wash.
  • Eat beets or drink beet and vegetable juice regularly.
  • Drink chlorophyll drinks and other green drinks.
  • Eat high quality, protein foods:  free-range eggs, fish, raw nuts and seeds and whole grains.
  • Take antioxidants to protect your liver from free radical damage.
  • Limit or delete common toxins like alcohol and coffee from your diet.

Then add the following foods and herbs to your shopping list and to as many of your meals and healthy snacks as possible.

  • milk thistle
  • dandelion root
  • turmeric
  • garlic
  • artichoke (leaves and hearts)
  • grapefruit
  • green tea
  • dark green vegetables
  • avocados
  • walnuts
  • rosemary
  • Cranberry juice (no sugar. Add this to water with some Stevia.)

There you have it. By incorporating these simple foods and tips into your daily routine, you can help your liver to become cleaner, healthier, and to start burning that stubborn fat that you thought would never go away!

See you in my next blog, when I’ll help you to understand why internal inflammation is so harmful and how to decrease it in your body… naturally! It’s BEYOND FIT!

Yours in good health, Cindy
